Shop Manager/Service Manager

Job description

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES Manage shop and shop operations. Primarily the inspection, maintenance and repair on vehicles, trucks, trailers, and farm equipment, to maximize safe and productive operations. KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, Manage, and hold Accountable (LMA) shop staff. LMA Responsibilities include directing, hiring, promoting, conducting performance evaluations and pay reviews, training and development, progressive discipline and employee terminations, and scheduling of work load and projects.

  • Active participant in fleet asset decisions.

  • Active participant in fleet DOT compliance.

  • Manage shop facility, equipment, and tools.

  • Manage and perform diagnoses of mechanical problems.

  • Manage and perform repairs and maintenance on heavy equipment to maximize safe and productive operations. Typical repairs include, but are not limited to, routine maintenance and repair hydraulic systems, brake systems, transmissions, electrical systems, and engines.

  • Manage VIR's (vehicle inspection reports) and/or repair orders, communicates with supervisor and/or equipment operators for clarification of problems and discusses preventive techniques with equipment users and vehicle drivers to minimize future repairs.

  • Manage paperwork associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage and accounting for applied times.

  • Manage shop specific portion of fleet management software program.

  • Manage shop safety and biosecurity.

  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Vocational school or bachelor’s degree helpful, but necessary.

  • Minimum two to three years shop or fleet management experience

  • Heavy Duty Truck / Diesel parts knowledge is preferred

  • Mechanical knowledge of heavy duty transportation equipment is preferred

  • Knowledge of DOT regulations is desired

  • Ability to work flexible schedules occasionally

  • Must be able to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to, dusk mask, earplugs, gloves, hardhat, safety glasses, work boots, and safety vest.

  • Must be able to use hand tools including, but not limited to, hammer, screwdriver and wrenches.

  • Must be able to use machines including, but not limited to, drill press, floor jacks, grinders, and welders.
